Oh, I'd swap my gun 'n' I'd swap my mule Tho' whoever took it would be one big fool. A Spanish production premiered at Teatro Nuevo Apolo on August 29, 2003, starring David Castedo as Adam and Xana García as Milly, and directed by Ricard Reguant with choreography by María Giménez. Gideon goes to the cabin and attempts to get Adam to return home by telling him that Milly had a baby girl. FAQ This movie was nominated for Best Picture, and rightly so. 2 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Kiss Me Kate (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Compilation), Annie Get Your Gun (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Vol.

It not anly a chick flick. In 1850s Oregon, Adam goes into town seeking a wife to run the household that consists of just himself and his six brothers. I have seen this film at least 8 times, so if you get a chance to see it again on TV, do not miss it! You will enjoy it. Howard Keel made a splash as the cheerful and virile leading man in numerous MGM musicals of the 1950s, but it wasn't until 1984 that he received the chance to record his first album as a solo performer. Instead of recoiling over the idea of "finding a wife" I just rolled with it as a silly plot idea. While the songs are lovely, they are mostly forgettable. Milly has a crush on Adam and marries him, expecting to have her own place with her husband.

This is not like any other i've seen.
A few years later, I was shocked to see an extensive clip from it (the barn raising dance, of course) featured in the documentary "That's Entertainment," which showcased all the great old MGM musicals. The cinema-scope and vibrant colors are unbelievably crisp.
Milly educates the brothers, teaching them hygiene, good manners and how to win somebody's heart. The production earned positive reviews from Variety and The New York Times. As soon as they return home, Adam reverts to his true self: an ill-mannered and inconsiderate slob. Almost at the top of my favourite movies of all time. SIX BROTHERS ADAM Oh yes Them a women was sobbin', sobbin', sobbin' Oh yeah Weepin' a ton Then sobbin' women Just remember what Robin, Robin, Robin Oh yeah Hood woulda done. Frank is played by the talented Tommy Rall - who you can also see in Kiss Me Kate! If you've seen a musical this is one even for the boys.

The show also played at The Prince of Wales Theatre, Leicester Square produced by Michael Winter, and had a unique North American engagement playing for five weeks at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.

The movie also presents some famous songs including, "Wonderful Day", "I'm a Lonesome Polecat", "June Bride" and, "When You're in Love" as well as "Goin' Courtin'", among others. The stage musical version of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers was first performed in June 1978 in the Dallas Summer Musicals season with Howard Keel and Jane Powell reprising the lead roles they had played in the original movie 24 years earlier. But in the end it's the choreography, which rivals anything on the London stage, that makes this a musical worth reviving.

A major revival ran from April 15, 2005 - June 26, 2005 at the Goodspeed Opera House (Connecticut). We'd already learned from his song "Bless Your Beautiful Hide" - meaning a woman's - that he wants "a wife that'll raise my brood." | The dance numbers have never been outdone, and what makes them so splendid is the vigor and athleticism of the men and women dancers equally. It starred Jacquelyn Piro Donovan and Burke Moses and was directed by Greg Ganakas with choreography by Patti Colombo.

Jane is as perky as can be as the girl who impulsively marries him only to find that she's expected to keep house for him and his seven handsome brothers. His daughter, Kaija, was married for more than two decades to Edward James Olmos. An angry Milly scolds the boys and sends them all to live in the barn, and Adam flees up to their hunting cabin in the mountains to live by himself. It was charming to see them and how well they had aged. Try it if you haven't seen it-you will not be sorry -if you have any taste!! The show...boasts some good songs. This is one of the finest directed by Stanley Donen with great stars like Howard Keel, Jane Powell with wonderful dances. Ok-will admit I'm to young to have seen this movie when it first came out-wasn't even born yet! Playlist. She teaches them to dance and then takes them to a barn-raising. The girls are crying and furious by the time they reach the house.

Bless your beautiful hide Wherever you may be. The musical was revived in 1981 as a vehicle for singer Debby Boone, with a June showcase engagement in the Akron-based Kenley Players season of 1981.

I truly enjoyed seeing someone masculine (gay or straight doesn't matter) move in a skilled manner, and disprove the stereotypes of "White Men Can't Dance." Looking for some great streaming picks?

This production filled the gap - though there was an ongoing dispute that said the show did not have the rights to play in London itself, only in the provinces. Revisiting this film, I was immediately pulled in by Howard Keel's opening song Bless Your Beautiful Hide. However, when they arrive in the distant farm, she leans that Adam is the eldest of seven unsophisticated and rude brothers. Forget the acting, which is sometimes a bit potty; the director and the music add to a clearly-defined script a rare sense of frontier life, where taking risks for happiness and facing the precariousness of things where life is less than settled become necessary. External Reviews His robust romantic presence and voice are perfectly suited to blend with Jane Powell's sweet soprano--the Nelson and Jeanette of the '50s era. [1][2] The production - with Keel and Powell still attached - then proceeded on what was touted as a pre-Broadway tour playing limited engagements in St Louis, Kansas City (Missouri), Toronto and Atlanta. They are beautiful, smart, and sassy.

Keel served as head of the Screen Actor's Guild from 1958 to 1959. But all turns out well, with a little help from a lesson in Roman history, hard work, and the willingness of six other local girls to be (finally) swept off their feet. Howard Keel and Jane Powell work well together and make a realistic, and pleasant pair. By the way, did you know that the guy playing "Frank" was borrowed from the New York Ballet?

Because of the early closure of “The Com is Green” with Deborah Kerr, the Old Vic was suddenly available for a few weeks until the planned opening of “The Cradle Will Rock” on August 14. i only wish that it could have continued on forever, Better Dance Sequences Have Never Been Filmed, Great Music, great dancing, good-looking people. I particularly like Tommy Rall and Russ Tamblyn. The exuberant acrobatic dancing of the brothers is a special highlight--particularly during the barnraising sequence. Although the dancer playing Ephraim (Jacques D'Amboise) is from the New York City Ballet, weirdly the one brother who gets a balletic style solo in the snow is Caleb, Matt Mattox (... but there ya go ...) (and that solo is great!!) Think you know music? He also stepped in for Alfred Drake as Curley in Oklahoma on Broadway before opening in London. It is based on the 1954 Stanley Donen film of the same name which is, itself, an adaption of the short story "The Sobbin' Women," by Stephen Vincent Benét, based on the Ancient Roman legend of The Rape of the Sabine Women. This was the film which made dancing acceptable as a male pursuit!!

You never get bored. Plus, organize your music into folders and set lists and much more! I didn't describe the girls.

No I am not gay but I have watched this movie hundreds of times since I first saw it at the age of 7 (thanks Mavis for taking me).

Howard Keel died yesterday bringing a lifetime of energetic and fun films to a close. Once I had put myself in the same fantasy mode as when watching a Busby Berkeley musical, I started enjoying it.
